African & African American Studies
The African & African American Studies minor is global in scope — exploring the histories and experiences of communities of African and African-descent throughout the world, including the African continent, Afro-Latin American and Caribbean world, Indian Ocean world, and the United States.
Overview
The African & African American Studies Program deepens your understanding of gender, race, ethnicity, diversity, empowerment, global justice, and systemic violence, as well as cultural and intellectual production such as art, literature and scientific discovery, by drawing from expertise in the fields of anthropology, gender studies, history, language and literature, music and the performing arts, international studies, and sociology. As you learn more about our interconnected world, you will develop the necessary skills to articulate the conditions and experiences of African societies and communities of the African diaspora into spaces that include business and law, policy, performance, research, and public discourse. Whether you’re interested in social justice, education, or global relations, this minor complements any major by equipping you with the tools to engage meaningfully with diversity and social change.
